Bath & Kitchen Remodeling in Philadelphia

Rowhome bathrooms are small and stacked over the same drain lines, so a remodel that moves fixtures has to respect the stack and the neighbors sharing the wall. Kitchens tend to be at the back with the drain running under the whole house to the front. Good planning here is knowing what cannot move.

The houses in Philadelphia

The Philadelphia nearest our yard is the Northeast — Somerton, Bustleton, Torresdale and the neighborhoods around them — which was built out in waves from the 1920s to the 1960s: brick rowhomes and twins with party walls, flat roofs, small basements holding the heater, the panel and the laundry, and drains that run under the front lawn to a main in the street. A rowhome shares more than a wall; roof drains, sewer laterals and sometimes water services were run for a block at a time. What goes wrong in one house is very often a block's problem, and diagnosing that properly is most of the work.
